Mirror on the Wall, Who’s the Prettiest Cloud of All?

Forrester Research has run up a study of private cloud vendors and rated them on 10 criteria: self-service portal or service catalog; dynamic workload management; resource management; service management; integration and control APIs; image library; RBAC administration; virtualization layer; physical compute & storage; and last but not least application services. Against these yardsticks it measured 15 companies. In descending order they are Platform Computing, HP, IBM, VMware, Abiquo, BMC, Dell, CA, TIBCO, newScale, Cloud.com, Eucalyptus, Hexagrid, Microsoft and Enomaly. Among the purer player vendors - heck against all of them - Platform Computing walks off with first prize ahead of HP, IBM and VMware with a total score of 26 out of a possible 40. SingTel Throws in its Lot with the Cloud

SingTel, Singapore's largest phone company and a major local player in broadband Internet services, is going into the cloud business, intending to establish Singapore as a regional cloud computing hub. It's launched Singapore's first integrated cloud computing marketplace for businesses. The SingTel Innovation Exchange is meant to accelerate the development of cloud computing services. The company expects to attract developers and promote their services in Asia-Pacific markets. It's collaborating with the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, leading unnamed technology companies and software developers to establish Singapore as a regional cloud computing hub. CA Names Don Ferguson Chief Technology Officer

CA, Inc. announced that Don Ferguson has been named chief technology officer, reporting to Ajei Gopal, executive vice president for CA's Products and Technology Group. Before assuming the position of CTO, Ferguson was CA's chief architect. "Don is one of the IT industry's most accomplished and respected technologists," said Gopal.
